Punicana, named after the scientific term for pomegranate, draws inspiration from Turkish culture where the fruit symbolizes good fortune and abundance. The brand was founded by Evren Doğançay, a fashion buyer with over a decade of global retail experience.
Punicana specializes in using two handmade fabrics: Ikat and Kutnu. Ikat, sourced from Uzbekistan via Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar, involves a complex month-long dying and weaving process. Kutnu, discovered in Gaziantep, is a historical “palace fabric” dating back to the 16th century.
These fabrics, though not cost-efficient for mass production, are prized for their rich colors, luxurious feel, and eco-friendly nature. Evren’s vision is to make these sustainable, artisanal fabrics accessible for everyday wear, from beach to cocktail attire.
